Volunteering

Volunteering

Be part of something meaningful — support, connect, and grow with us.

At Royah CIC, volunteering is not simply about giving time.
It is about becoming part of a space that supports others while also offering personal growth, connection, and purpose.

Our volunteers play an essential role in helping us create environments that feel welcoming, safe, and consistent for the communities we serve.

Why Volunteer With Royah

We understand that people choose to volunteer for different reasons — to give back, to gain experience, to connect, or to find purpose.

At Royah, volunteering offers the opportunity to:

  • Be part of meaningful, community-led work
  • Support individuals in a calm and respectful environment
  • Build confidence and develop transferable skills
  • Connect with others in a supportive setting
  • Contribute to positive, lasting change

Volunteering with us is not about fitting into a rigid role — it is about finding a way to contribute that feels right for you.

What Volunteering Looks Like

Our volunteers support across a range of activities, depending on their interests and availability.

This may include:

  • Supporting group sessions and activities
  • Welcoming participants and helping create a comfortable environment
  • Assisting with light organisation and setup
  • Engaging with participants in a friendly, respectful way
  • Supporting creative or wellbeing-based sessions
  • Helping with community events and outreach

There is no expectation to take on more than you feel comfortable with.
We value presence, consistency, and genuine care over experience.

A Supportive and Flexible Approach

We recognise that everyone has different commitments and levels of availability.

That is why we offer:

  • Flexible volunteering opportunities
  • Support and guidance throughout your involvement
  • A welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Opportunities to learn and grow over time

Whether you are able to commit regularly or occasionally, your contribution is valued.

Who Can Volunteer

We welcome volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, including:

  • Individuals with lived experience
  • Those looking to gain experience in community work
  • Students and graduates
  • Adults looking to reconnect or give back
  • Individuals seeking meaningful engagement within their community

No specific experience is required — only a willingness to engage with care, respect, and understanding.

The Value of Lived Experience

We particularly value volunteers who bring lived experience and cultural understanding.

This helps us create spaces that feel:

  • Relevant
  • Inclusive
  • Trustworthy

Your experiences matter — and can make a real difference to others.

What You Gain

While volunteering is about supporting others, it is also an opportunity for personal growth.

Many of our volunteers gain:

  • Increased confidence
  • Stronger communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • A sense of purpose and belonging
  • Insight into community and wellbeing work

For some, it also becomes a stepping stone into further opportunities.

Being Part of Royah

Volunteering with Royah means being part of something that is built on:

  • Care
  • Respect
  • Understanding
  • Consistency

It means contributing to spaces where people feel supported, seen, and able to grow.

Volunteering Structure & Support

Volunteers play an integral role in the delivery of our work at Royah CIC. We have developed a structured, supportive volunteering model to ensure that all volunteers are effectively engaged, well-supported, and able to contribute meaningfully.

Recruitment & Accessibility

We recruit volunteers through a range of accessible and community-based channels, including:

  • Local community networks and partnerships
  • Word of mouth and participant referrals
  • Social media and outreach
  • Engagement with individuals already connected to our programmes

We aim to ensure our volunteering opportunities are:

  • Open and inclusive
  • Accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Particularly welcoming to those with lived experience

No prior experience is required — we focus on attitude, empathy, and willingness to engage.

Selection & Onboarding

All volunteers go through a simple but structured onboarding process, including:

  • Informal conversations to understand motivations and suitability
  • Clear role explanation and expectations
  • Introduction to Royah CIC values, approach, and safeguarding principles

Where required, we will carry out appropriate checks (e.g. DBS) depending on the nature of the role.

Training & Induction

Volunteers receive basic induction and ongoing guidance to ensure they feel confident and prepared.

This includes:

  • Understanding boundaries and appropriate engagement
  • Safeguarding awareness
  • Cultural sensitivity and inclusive practice
  • Communication and active listening

Training is delivered in a practical, accessible way, aligned with the nature of our sessions.

Roles & Responsibilities

Volunteers support across a range of activities, including:

  • Assisting with session setup and coordination
  • Welcoming participants and helping create a comfortable environment
  • Supporting group-based activities
  • Engaging with participants in a respectful and informal way
  • Supporting creative, wellbeing, and movement sessions

Roles are flexible and adapted based on:

  • Volunteer strengths
  • Comfort levels
  • Availability

We ensure volunteers are not placed in roles beyond their capacity or experience.

Supervision & Ongoing Support

Volunteers are supported throughout their involvement through:

  • Regular informal check-ins
  • On-site guidance during sessions
  • Clear points of contact for support
  • Opportunities to raise concerns or feedback

This ensures volunteers feel:

  • Confident in their role
  • Supported in challenging situations
  • Valued as part of the team

Safeguarding & Boundaries

Safeguarding is central to our work.

All volunteers are made aware of:

  • Safeguarding procedures
  • Appropriate boundaries with participants
  • How to raise concerns

Clear systems are in place to ensure:

  • Safe delivery environments
  • Protection for both participants and volunteers

Retention & Progression

We aim to create a positive volunteering experience that encourages continued involvement.

We support retention through:

  • Creating welcoming and inclusive environments
  • Recognising contributions informally
  • Providing consistent opportunities to engage

Where appropriate, volunteers may also:

  • Take on increased responsibility over time
  • Develop new skills
  • Gain experience relevant to future opportunities

The Value of Volunteering

Volunteering contributes to both programme delivery and wider community impact.

For the organisation:

  • Enhances capacity and reach
  • Strengthens community connection
  • Supports sustainable delivery

For volunteers:

  • Builds confidence and skills
  • Creates a sense of purpose
  • Encourages connection and belonging

Contribution to Project Outcomes

Volunteers directly support the success of our programmes by:

  • Increasing participant engagement
  • Supporting consistent delivery
  • Enhancing the quality of sessions through additional presence and support

Their involvement strengthens both the immediate experience and the long-term impact of our work.
